The new Meridian Water station in the London Borough of Enfield has been shortlisted in the ‘Moving’ category for the New London Awards.

Hosted by New London Architecture, the New London Awards celebrate the projects that best create a sustainable, civilised and egalitarian city, that seek to improve the quality and standards of new design and respect London’s rich mix of old and new, that support the regeneration of its towns, and that strive to improve the usability of its streets and public spaces.

The station opened in June 2019, and this shortlisting recognises it not only as one of 2020’s best and most innovative projects, but also the impact this vital piece of infrastructure has made in unlocking one of London’s largest brownfield regeneration sites. Recognisable for its dramatic floating roof and flanking campanile features, Meridian Water station acts as a beacon in the landscape.

Our Rail and Infrastructure team worked closely with the Arup Engineers and London Borough of Enfield’s architectural advisor to develop proposals by both Atkins and Karakusevic Carson Architects and to obtain CABE / Design Council approvals and clearance of planning conditions. Developing the designs further, attention to detail and the use of materials applied to large-scale pre-fabricated structural elements over an existing operational railway line resulted in achieving design quality within a challenging programme and budget constraints as delivered for our colleagues at Volker Fitzpatrick, Greater Anglia and Network Rail.

Meridian Water station can also be voted for the People's Choice Prize. Vote for your favourite project here
