Our design for Three Rivers Academy in Surrey has been shortlisted for the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) Awards 2019 for the ‘Design through Innovation’ and ‘Community Benefit’ categories.

The RICS Awards recognise the most innovative projects in the region and their impact on local communities. They showcase the most inspirational initiatives and developments in land, real estate, construction and infrastructure.

This is the latest accolade for Three Rivers Academy which was one of only ten schools across the globe (and the only UK school) to be nominated for an award at this year’s World Architecture Festival (WAF). It also made the shortlist at the Concrete Society Awards and for the Best Pupil/Student Experience at the Education Estates Awards.

Completed last year it is a rare example of a new school procured outside of the ESFA contractor framework. Delivered under a single roof, it provides a world class learning environment to inspire 21st Century learning.

The new Three Rivers Academy film showcases the design, and features interviews with the Head, the staff, the students and the lead architects responsible for its design.

The school has received praise from students, teachers and parents alike for the improvements it’s made to the learning process.

Anne-Louise Payne, Head of School at Three Rivers Academy said: “We are thrilled with our new state-of-the-art school. Our vision was to create a world-class learning environment for our students, and the project team have achieved this with a building that is designed for students’ present and future needs, and that is very much not a standard specification building. This has resulted in a professional, safe, accessible and inclusive environment for our staff, students and the wider community”.

A parent of a Year 10 student comments: “I have noticed a definite improvement in my son’s behaviour and attitude towards school since the move. I am adamant that this is down to the fantastic new building, as he really loves being in the new building and this makes him want to do well.”

Head boy Enzo Martino goes on to say: “The facilities are great, there’s a new football pitch which is fantastic. Also the sports hall is huge, so you can pretty much play any sport in there. You can definitely tell the difference between the learning in the new school and the old new school, people are more proud to be at the school’. I’m really proud of telling people that I go to Three Rivers Academy now.”

The RICS awards ceremony takes place at The Ageas Bowl Hilton in Southampton on 16th May.
