The Brief

We were briefed to develop a scheme to provide capacity enhancements to the existing stations including step-free access. From Conceptual Design Statement and beyond, we worked in conjunction with WSP engineers and main development architects Renzo Piano Building Workshop (RPBW).

Concept

We have ensured there is a seamless transition from the new station entrance and ticket hall to the retail concourse and complex urban realm above.

We designed the station to subconsciously guide passengers to and from the platforms, reducing wayfinding decision points and providing a safer station for both users and operators.

The scheme enabled London Underground to provide a Letter of No Objection to allow construction to begin.

Features

Due to the existing station, platform tunnels and escalator incline we used Bentley AECOsim Building Designer for the complex geometrical and spatial co-ordination. The development of the scheme has required in depth knowledge of passenger spaceproofing to London Underground requirements, along with the services plant room and development and co-ordination of the supply route.
